Report: Jets Looking To Replace GM Mike Tannenbaum

Jason La Canfora reports that league sources have informed him that the New York Jets are exploring the idea of replacing current GM Mike Tannenbaum with the intentions of keeping him in a “cap management role.”

La Canfora adds that Jets are in the process of reaching out to potential GM candidates, but they are reportedly having “significant issues with the parameters,” according to the source.

The Jets’ cap is negatively effected by some of pretty bad contracts that have been given out to player like Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes in recent year, so it’s not surprising that they would have some issues with this particular position. In fact, a league executive mentioned that he doubts the Jets will be able to find serious interest among some of the best candidates for the job.

“That’s totally ridiculous,” said the exec. “Only the Jets.”

La Canfora specifically mentions that the Jets have interest in Texans college scouting director Mike Maccagnan, but he reportedly doesn’t have interest in the job.

Tannenbaum deserves the criticism that the his team has received this year. At least the Jets ownership is prepared to make changes to some degree in the coming weeks.
