Report: Panthers Discussing Long-Term Extension With DE Greg Hardy

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Carolina Panthers have held discussions with DE Greg Hardy‘s representatives regarding a long-term extension.

Person adds that the Panthers discussed possibly getting this deal done before the start of the season.

Hardy, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make $1.35 million for the upcoming season. He tallied 11 sacks last season along with 23 quarterback pressures and two forced fumbles.

Carolina currently has a little under $12 million in cap space to work with, which is actually pretty good when you consider their situation before new GM David Caldwell took over. The Panthers could always use their franchise tag on Hardy next season if they’re unable to reach an agreement on an extension.

We have Hardy listed as the No. 6 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.
