Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots will meet with the representatives for free agent CB Aqib Talib at the Combine this weekend regarding a contract extension.
Recent reports have indicated that Talib could be in for an active market should be test the open market. However, the Patriots are believed to have Talib among their top priorities this offseason, so there is a chance that a long-term deal could come together in the next few weeks.
Talib, 27, was the Patriots best cover corner and started the season off great before injuries took a toll later in the year. He was voted to his first Pro Bowl this year and was even named a second team All-Pro cornerback.
This year’s free agent market does include a number of quality cornerbacks including guys like Alterraun Verner, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Brent Grimes, Vontae Davis, and Sam Shields, so it will be interesting to see the final figures for these players.
