Saints Release WRs Steve Breaston & Patrick Crayton

Update:

The New Orleans Saints released veteran wide receivers Steve Breaston and Patrick Crayton on Monday, according to the NFL transactions release.

Breaston, 29, was just signed two weeks ago, but apparently didn’t make enough of an impression to convince them that he was worth a roster spot. Breaston has been dealing with a knee injury, so there’s a good chance that this factored into the team’s decision.

New Orleans also released LB Chase Thomas and placed Saints placed DE Kenyon Coleman on IR.

Adam Schefter reports that the Saints have signed Steve Breaston to a one-year deal.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that Breaston will receive the veteran’s minimum.

Ben Volin reports that the New Orleans Saints plan to sign free agent WR Steve Breaston following his workout Monday morning.

Breaston, 29, recently worked out for the Lions, but they chose to sign Chaz Schilens instead. The Steelers and Browns had also shown some interest months, but the fact that he was still dealing with some knee inflammation likely prevented talks from progressing.

Marques Colston is dealing with a foot injury, so they could use some additional help in case they suffer another injury. The Saints’ receiving corp includes Lance MooreJoe Morgan, Nick Toon and Kenny Stills.
