NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweets the Seahawks are announcing a press conference. The reason? Rapoport says it’s to announce a four-year extension with safety Kam Chancellor.
Chancellor, 25, was scheduled to make $1.3 million this season on his final year of his rookie contract. Rapoport reports the new extension will pay the Virginia Tech product $28 million over the next four years, with $17 million guaranteed.
With Chancellor locked up, the Seahawks secure one of the best, young defensive backfields in all of football along with the likes of Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Brandon Browner.
Chancellor will be entering his fourth season in the NFL this fall. He recorded all four of his career interceptions in the 2011 season.
