Saquon Barkley Believes He Can Beat Timetable To Return From High-Ankle Sprain

According to Kimberly Jones of NFL Media, Giants RB Saquon Barkley has already been telling people he believes he can beat his timetable for recovery from a high-ankle sprain.

However, the Giants and their training staff still plan to ensure Barkley is “cautious” in his rehab and return to the team.

The expectation is that Barkley was going to be sidelined between 4-8 weeks with this ankle injury. However, Barkley said after the game that he had a similar ankle issue while at Penn State and only missed two games.

The plan, for now, is that the Giants will move forward with Wayne Gallman, Elijhaa Penny and Jonathan Hilliman at running back while Barkley is out. Although, New York has worked out some running backs and could bring more next week.

Barkley, 22, was taken with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Giants. Barkley is in the second year of his four-year, $31,321,752 rookie contract that included a $20,859,456 signing bonus.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Giants to pick up in 2021.

In 2019, Barkley has appeared in three games and rushed for 237 yards on 37 carries (6.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 74 yards receiving and one total touchdown.

We’ll have more regarding Barkley as the news is available.
