Seahawks Sign G Deuce Lutui, LB Barrett Ruud & CB Roy Lewis

The Seattle Seahawks have announced the signings of G Deuce Lutui, LB Barrett Ruud and CB Roy Lewis today.

The Cardinals were reportedly interested in Lutui as of yesterday, but the Seahawks obviously persuaded him to move on. Lutui is decent in pass protection, but the Cardinals offensive has been so bad recently that it’s hard to say that he’s going to be a difference maker for Seattle.

Ruud is coming off of an atrocious year in Tennessee. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the second worst inside linebacker last year. The concerning factor with Ruud is that he has a hard time playing the run which is one of the top requirements for a middle linebacker. The good news is that he’s an average player in coverage so he could really benefit from some strong play upfront by Seattle’s defensive line.

The Seahawks chose not to tender Roy Lewis a contract but wasted no time in getting signed to a new deal.

We wrote earlier in the day that the Seahawks would be wise to add some extra talent to their offensive line and at linebacker, so they apparently felt the same way. This could open the door for them to either grab someone like Quintion Coples or Mark Barron at #12 or possibly move back in the first-round.
