Sean Payton-To-Cowboys Rumors A Factor In Teddy Bridgewater’s Decision

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram reports that the rumors of Saints HC Sean Payton possibly taking the Cowboys’ job in 2020 are a concern for free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater and whether he returns to New Orleans.

A source close to Bridgewater tells Hill that they’re aware of the rumors and there’s no guarantee Payton will remain the Saints head coach once Drew Brees has retired.

A report said that Bridgewater was expected to re-sign with the Saints, but that isn’t the case and he’s currently meeting with the Dolphins, who could offer him the chance to start in 2019.

Bridgewater, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $6,849,502 rookie contract after Minnesota declined to pick up his fifth-year option.

Bridgewater signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Jets last year that includes just $500,000 guaranteed. However, the Jets later traded him to the Saints during the preseason.

In 2018, Bridgewater appeared in five games for the Saints and completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 118 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for five yards.
