T.Y. Hilton’s Agent Extending Stay In Indy To Work On Extension With Colts

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Colts WR T.Y. Hilton has extended his stay in Indiana to continue working on a long-term extension for his client.

  • According to Rapoport, the Colts have made Hilton their “top priority” and the fact that Rosenhaus is staying longer to meet with them “speaks volumes.”

This is a very encouraging sign that a contract extension could be in place at some point in the near  future.

Rapoport previously reported that there’s optimism that the Colts could have extensions in place with Hilton and LT Anthony Castonzo at some point in the next few weeks.

There is optimism that they could finish both extensions before training camp ends,” Rapoport said. “Once camp ends, then business starts and it’s no more time to talk contracts.

This organization loves and wants to reward (Hilton),” added Rapoport. “He’s a high-character guy and they want nothing more than to give him the kind of contract extension that he deserves.”

There’s been talk that Hilton could be targeting as much as $14 million per year in his next contract, which would leave him in line with Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas.

Assuming this figure is accurate, this could be too much for the Colts, who still need to sign QB Andrew Luck to a mega-deal at some point, address Castonzo, and decide what to do with TEs Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener.

Hilton, 25, has one year remaining on his four-year, $2.642 million rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $665,000 for the 2015 season.

Last year, Hilton caught 82 passes for a career high 1,345 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the N0. 10 receiver out of 110 qualifying players.
