Teams Calling Cowboys To See If They’re Interested In Trading For A Safety

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said Wednesday that they’ve been receiving calls from multiple teams gauging their interest in possible trades for safeties that could be a fit for Dallas.

However, Jones stressed that they aren’t in any hurry to trade for a safety at this time.

“It’s got to be a safety that works for us,” Jones said, per Jon Machota. “We’re not going to be in any hurry. We know we can go out and play really good defense with the guys we have.

Jones added that teams have also asked about players on the Cowboys’ roster, particularly their offensive linemen, per Todd Archer

Many expected the Cowboys to address the safety position in free agency and target Earl Thomas, but it, obviously, didn’t happen. It’s clear the Cowboys have a certain amount their willing to spend on the position and it didn’t align with the top-end of the market this year.

Dallas also declined to use a high pick in their year’s draft on a safety and instead waited until round six to select Donovan Wilson.

As of now, the Cowboys have Wilson, Xavier Woods, Jeff Heath, George Iloka, Kavon Frazier, Kyle Quiero, Darian Thompson and Jameill Showers on their roster at safety.

The best available free agent safeties include Eric Berry, Tre Boston, Glover Quin, Mike Mitchell, Darian Stewart, Corey Graham, Reggie Nelson, Johnathan Cyprien, and Ron Parker.

We’ll have more regarding the Cowboys as the news is available.
