Texans Place QB Tom Savage On IR, Promote TE Ryan Malleck

The Houston Texans announced that they’ve placed QB Tom Savage on injured reserve and promoted TE Ryan Malleck.

Reports from last weekend mentioned that it was unlikely Savage was going to return this season after he suffered a scary concussion during their loss to the 49ers.

It was clear that Savage was concussed, but he later returned to the game after being evaluated on the sidelines. Shortly after, Savage was pulled from the game and taken to the locker room for further evaluation.

Houston will finish out the season with T.J. Yates as their starting quarterback.

Savage, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2.52 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

In 2017, Savage has appeared in eight games and completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1412 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.
