John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans have promoted Tracy Smith to special teams coordinator on Tuesday.

Smith replaces Brad Seely, who retired a month ago.

According to McClain, the Texans also interviewed former NFL players Josh Cribbs and Sammy Morris before promoting Smith.

Smith worked for Seely for the past 11 seasons.

In 2019, the Texans’ special teams unit rated No. 5 in the league, according to Football Outsiders.
