Veteran CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Could Return To Giants?

Free agent CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie told a group of Giants reporters on Saturday that he’s just “chillin” right now and waiting until closer to the season to sign with a new team, per Dan Duggan.

According to Rodgers-Cromartie, multiple teams have contacted him and expressed interest.

Interestingly enough, Rodgers-Cromartie added “y’all might see me again,” implying he could re-sign with the Giants at some point, per Duggan.

A few weeks ago, Rodgers-Cromartie told Josina Anderson that he plans to play this season, but probably wouldn’t sign until training camp.

“I’m good ya dig. Yea ima play,” Rodgers-Cromartie said. “Teams told me to wait til training camp. I can sign…but I will wait. No rush.”

Last we heard regarding Rodgers-Cromartie, he told Anderson back in March that he was in no rush to sign with a new team and could wait until “April sometime” before agreeing to a new deal.

Rodgers-Cromartie visited with the Redskins earlier this offseason but left without an agreement in place.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He was in the final year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $13.98 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.48 million for the 2018 season when the Giants released him in a move that freed up $6.5 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Rodgers-Cromartie appeared in 15 games and recorded 48 tackles, a half sack, no interceptions and pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
