Vikings Pick Up HC Mike Zimmer’s 2020 Option

Vikings GM Rick Spielman told reporters on Wednesday that they exercised HC Mike Zimmer’s option for the 2020 season, per Courtney Cronin.

This, of course, prevents Zimmer from being a lame-duck head coach in 2019.

Last year, there was some speculation going around that Zimmer could be worth watching in Minnesota after the team failed to make the playoffs this season.

However, Zimmer told Tom Pelisssero: “I’m not retiring or resigning. Period.

Zimmer, 62, began his NFL coaching career with the Cowboys back in 1994 as their DBs coach. He worked his way up to defensive coordinator and had stints with the Falcons and Bengals before the Vikings hired him as their head coach in 2014.

During his five years as Vikings’ head coach, Zimmer has led the team to a record of 47-32-1 (59.4 percent), which includes two playoff appearances and one trip to the NFC Championship game.
