Vikings Waive QB Joel Stave From Practice Squad, Sign DB Cedric Thompson

The Minnesota Vikings announced a number of practice squad moves on Tuesday including the addition of OL Austin Shepherd, DE Sterling Bailey, and DB Cedric Thompson.

  • The Vikings also waived TE Kyle Carter, TE Brian Leonhardt and QB Joel Stave.

The Vikings’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. RB CJ Ham
  2. DT Toby Johnson
  3. WR Moritz Boehringer
  4. DE Stephen Weatherly
  5. WR Isaac Fruechte
  6. G Sean Hickey
  7. DB Tre Roberson
  8. OL Austin Shepherd
  9. DE Sterling Bailey
  10. DB Cedric Thompson

Stave, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin back in May. He was, unfortunately, waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Vikings’ practice squad.

During his four-year college career, Stave threw for 7,635 yards while completing 59.5 percent of his passes to go along with 48 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.

Thompson, 23, is a former fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015. He was, unfortunately, unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason last year, but was added to the Dolphins’ practice squad at the start of the season.

The Patriots would later sign him to their active roster before bringing him back on a future/reserve contract this past January.

Thompson has yet to appear in an NFL game.
