ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned on this mornings’ SportsCenter that the Philadelphia Eagles’ asking price for CB Asante Samuel “isn’t very much at this point.”
Schefter adds that the Eagles want to have a deal finalized before the start of draft, which makes sense considering that they’re likely to receive some form of draft compensation for him. There’s been some talk that the Eagles would be willing to move him for a conditional fifth-round pick, Schefter mentions that they could be lucky to get any more than a sixth-round pick for him.
If that’s the case, it’s a pretty poor return for a player that was actually much better than people give him credit for being last season. Yes, Samuel does come with a sizable contract that is almost certainly impacting the offers that the Eagles are receiving for him, but you’re going to be hard pressed to find a better available option right now.
