NFL Notes: Browns, Chargers, Dolphins, & Giants

  • Mike Florio wonders if the Browns could hire Adam Gase as their next head coach and persuade Peyton Manning to join him in Cleveland.
  • Tony Grossi expects Packers executive Eliot Wolf, Jaguars assistant HC Doug Marrone, Bears OC Adam Gase, Peyton Manning, and Seahawks OL coach Tom Cable all to be linked to the Browns.

  • Jason Cole confirms that the Chargers appear to be inclined to keep HC Mike McCoy, but no decision has been made and it’s by no means 100 percent.

Dolphins impending free agent DE Olivier Vernon said he’d like to return to Miami next year, but realizes it’s a business and he’ll have to do what’s best.

“I’d like to be here,” Vernon told James Walker. “But at the end of the day, business is business. So if this is my last game and I enter free agency, then I’m going to see how that goes.”

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News takes a look at a number of head-coaching candidates to keep an eye on for the Giants’ job should they move on from long-time HC Tom Coughlin.

Vacchiano’s list consists of: Saints HC Sean Payton, Alabama HC Nick Saban, Giants OC Ben McAdoo, Patriots, OC Josh McDaniels, Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly, Stanford David Shaw, Steelers OC Todd Haley, Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo, Panthers OC Mike Shula, Panthers DC Sean McDermott, Jaguars assistant HC Doug Marrone, and Bengals OC Hue Jackson.
