NFL Notes: Bills, Browns, Giants, Jets, & Rams

Bills

  • Bills HC Rex Ryan made it clear that Tyrod Taylor is “entrenched” as their starting quarterback, which he believes is a real positive for them this year. (Chris Brown)
  • Ryan said of retaining DE Mario Williams: “I would love to have Mario back. How realistic that is, I’m not sure. There’s a lot of contributing factors involved.” (Joe Buscaglia)
  • Ryan did, however, admit that they have a “lot of tough decisions to make as an organization” this offseason. (Tyler Dunne)
  • Ryan said that he’s open to a return for WR Percy Harvin, but added: “We’ll see how things go.” (Chris Brown)
  • Ryan said of possibly re-signing G Richie Incognito: “I’m trying, guys. I’ll give it my best. That’s for sure.” (Mike Rodak)
  • Ryan mentioned that all indications from their doctors is that they feel great about S Aaron Williams being fully healthy. However, Ryan said that it’s up to him mentally. (Joe Buscaglia)

Browns

  • Browns HC Hue Jackson said that they haven’t received any word from the NFL regarding suspended WR Josh Gordon‘s status. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Hue added that if Gordon is reinstated, he plans to meet with him and see if he’s right fit. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Jackson also mentioned that C Alex Mack hasn’t told them whether he plans to opt out of contract before the March 4 deadline. (Nate Ulrich)

Giants

  • Giants HC Ben McAdoo said he has talked to WR Victor Cruz and “absolutely” expects Cruz back next season. (Ralph Vacchiano)
  • McAdoo told reporters that “it was obvious how disruptive he was ” when Jason Pierre-Paul returned last season. (Paul Schwartz)
  • Regarding taking over for HC Tom Coughlin, McAdoo said: “I’m not trying to be Tom (Coughlin). I’m not Tom. He’s already taken. We’re going to evolve.” (Paul Schwartz)
  • McAdoo said that people are giving up on RB Andre Williams too early, and he views Williams as “very complimentary.” (Jordan Raanan)
  • McAdoo said of wanting free agent WR Rueben Randle back: “At this point in time it’s a little early to tell.” (Tom Rock)

Jets

  • Jets HC Todd Bowles said that releasing CB Antonio Cromartie was “a hard decision,” but added that they need to upgrade position. (Rich Cimini)
  • Bowles mentioned that there’s still a chance Cromartie could be brought back at some point. (Rich Cimini)
  • Bowles said that no decision has been made regarding whether they’re franchise DE Muhammad Wilkerson. (Art Stapleton)
  • On the topic of re-signing QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bowles said: “We’re working on it.” (Manish Mehta)
  • Bowles expects there to be an “open competition” at cornerback between Buster Skrine, Marcus Williams and Dee Milliner. (Rich Cimini)
  • Regarding Geno Smith, Bowles said: “Right now, Geno’s our backup quarterback.” (Kimberly A. Martin)
  • Bowles made it clear that they want to get younger: “We know we’re an older team. We want to get younger at almost every position.” (Rich Cimini)
  • Jets GM Mike Maccagnan confirmed that he has meetings scheduled with all of the agents for their free agents. (Rich Cimini)
  • According to Maccagnan, they could use their franchise tag on either Wilkerson or DT Damon Harrison. (Rich Cimini)
  • Maccagnan said that they’re looking into moves to create more cap space. (Rich Cimini)

Rams

  • Rams HC Jeff Fisher reiterated that Case Keenum is still their starting quarterback heading into offseason. However, Fisher did admit that they could make some additions. (Nick Wagoner)
  • Fisher said he hopes “sign my secondary” with their huge amount of cap space. (Nick Wagoner)
  • Fisher confirmed that Alec Ogletree will be their new middle linebacker and added that they’re hoping to re-sign Mark Barron. (Nick Wagoner)
  • Jim Thomas reports that the Rams have a meeting scheduled with Ogletree’s agent regarding an extension.
