San Francisco 49ers’ CB Richard Sherman said during a press conference that he was only planning on playing three more years of football.
“I’m only going to play three after this. That’s what the wife tells me.” Sherman said, via Cam Inman. “If the good San Francisco 49ers would love to have me here. After that, I’m going to go into the (TV) booth.”
Sherman, who has designs on being a broadcaster after his football career is over, is entering the final year of a contract that he negotiated himself.
“We’ve had talks, but obviously when you represent yourself, you have to focus on the season when the season comes,” Sherman said. “If anything changes, we’ll be the first to let you guys know.”
Sherman, 32, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2011. He was entering the final of his five-year, $58.789 million contract when the Seahawks released him during the 2018 offseason.
The 49ers signed him to a three-year, $39.15 million contract. He is entering the final year of the deal and is set to earn a base salary of $8,000,000 this season.
In 2019, Sherman appeared in 15 games and recorded 61 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions, 11 pass defenses, and scored one defensive touchdown.
