AFC East Notes: Bills, Dolphins, Jets

Bills

  • Mike Rodak of ESPN writes that the Bills should consider trading away DE Jerry Hughes
  • Hughes is in the final year of his contract and Rodak mentions that trading him now would allow them to net draft assets now and free up $7.5 million of cap space. 
  • Rodak notes that the Rams inquired about Hughes at the trade deadline last year. 

Dolphins

  • Armando Salguero reports that the Dolphins have moved on from assistant to head coach Jay Kaiser.
  • The Dolphins officially hired special teams assistant Brendan Farrell, and quality control coaches Mike Judge and Matt Lombardi to the staff.

Jets

  • With the news that the Jets will keep their 3-4 base defense in place under new DC Gregg Williams, Ralph Vacchiano writes that finding help at edge rusher becomes even more important for New York. 
  • Vacchiano expects the Jets to target speed rusher such as Dante Fowler Jr in free agency. 
  • Some draft options at pass rusher for New York could include Ohio State’s Nick Bosa, Kentucky’s Josh Allen and possibly Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell if they trade back. 
  • Vacchiano says the Jets could look to re-sign DE Henry Anderson, who has proved to be a better fit in a 3-4 system. 
  • However, Vacchiano isn’t ruling out the possibility that the Jets could draft an interior defensive lineman such as Quinnen Williams.
  • Jay Glazer expects the Jets to re-sign QB Josh McCown to serve as Sam Darnold‘s backup in 2019.
