AFC Notes: Bengals, Browns, Steelers

Bengals

  • The Athletic’s Jay Morrison thinks there’s a good chance the Bengals carry three quarterbacks on the final roster again, including both 2019 fourth-round QB Ryan Finley and former UDFA Jake Dolegala.
  • Morrison would characterize 2020 as a prove-it season for Bengals CB William Jackson and adds he’s probably behind RB Joe Mixon and WR A.J. Green in the line for extensions.
  • Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer notes the Bengals coaching staff returned to the team facility last Friday.
  • Over The Cap’s Nick Korte lists Bengals S Jessie Bates and G Michael Jordan as players who are helped by the new CBA’s PPE rules and are on track to get raises in their fourth season.

Browns

  • Browns HC Kevin Stefanski, OC Andrew Van Pelt and DC Joe Woods will all be new in Cleveland.
  • Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer notes the Browns coaching staff plans to return to the team facility when the players do at the beginning of training camp, though some coaches have returned voluntarily.
  • Over The Cap’s Nick Korte lists Browns LB Mack Wilson, RB Nick Chubb and CB Greedy Williams as players who are helped by the new CBA’s PPE rules and are on track to get raises in their fourth season.
  • BrownsZone.com’s Scott Petrak lists Browns CB Terrance Mitchell, WR Rashard Higgins, DE Olivier Vernon, G Wyatt Teller and TE David Njoku as veterans who could be surprise cut or trade candidates during the preseason.
  • Petrak thinks the Browns could use RB Kareem Hunt more as a No. 3 wide receiver to get him on the field more.
  • Ben Volin of the Boston Globe thinks the Browns will be more affected by the unique challenges of the 2020 season given they’re installing an entirely new coaching staff and system.

Steelers

  • Over The Cap’s Nick Korte lists Steelers WR Diontae Johnson as a player helped by the new CBA’s PPE rules and on track to get a raise in his fourth season.
  • Bob Labriola of the team website thinks there’s a “100-percent” chance the Steelers and DL Cameron Heyward work out a long-term extension.
