AFC Notes: Broncos, Raiders, Titans

Broncos

  • Mike Klis reports that the Broncos have a couple of teams interested in CB Chris Harris Jr but talks are “not that far along.” Klis says there’s still some uncertainty whether Harris will be traded.
  • James Palmer mentions that if Harris is in fact traded, a new contract would have to be done with him and his new team.
  • Palmer adds the Broncos have received some interest in Harris and something could happen during the next two days of the draft.

Raiders

Raiders GM Mike Mayock told reporters that he was surprised by the reaction to the news that he had sent the scouting department home last week.

“I made the decision to do it three weeks ago, and I didn’t tell anybody,” Mayock said, via NBC Bay Area. “It was my decision. And when the job got done and the work was over. . . .I inherited a group of scouts, and some of them may be with us, and some of them may not be with us by their own choice or not. At the end of the day, when the job was over, I brought them together as a group and respectfully and professionally told them that the job was done, thank you very much and that we would be talking.

“And 40 minutes later we had a leak, which just reinforced the decision.

“I’m kind of blown away by the whole story, to be honest with you,” Mayock added.

  • Mayock said of drafting Clelin Ferrell at No. 4 overall: “There were flashier players that other teams may have had higher on their boards, but for us it was Ferrell and Bosa.” (Scott Bair)

Titans

Titans GM Jon Robinson and HC Mike Vrabel both said that their research into DT Jeffery Simmons made them confident that the incident of Simmons hitting a woman while he was in high school was not one indicative of the kind of person Simmons is and has been at Mississippi State.

“I’ll say this: There are bad people, and there are good people that make mistakes — bad, horrific mistakes,” Vrabel said, via the Tennessean. “And you can fix mistakes, you can’t fix bad people. And I can’t wait, and I’m excited to have Jeff sit in front of you guys and share that story. He doesn’t hide behind it. He stands up like a grown man and he owns it. And I can promise you I will be proud of him when he meets with you, whenever he does, that this is a good guy, this is a great guy that made a horrific mistake. He lives with it every day of his life and I’m very confident, as is Jon, that he will make everyone here proud.”
