AFC Notes: Browns, Ravens, Steelers

Browns

Browns RB Kareem Hunt issued a vote of confidence in RB Nick Chubb, who is entering a contract year, and told the organization to “please pay that man.”

“Man, please pay that man,” Hunt said, via Scott Petrak of BrownsZone. “He’s a freak of nature. And he’s a brother to me, and I love what he does on and off the field. Just a great person and teammate.”

Hunt added that Chubb and himself are capable of playing whatever HC Kevin Stefanski asks of them, including being on the field at the same time.

“Whatever Coach Stefanski calls, either Nick or I are going to make it work,” Hunt said. “So if that’s both of us on the field at the same time, that’s both of us on the field at the same time.”

Hunt believes both running backs can achieve 1,000 rushing yards after he totaled 841 last season.

“It’s very possible. I believed it was possible last year, too, but some things happened,” Hunt said. “We’ll learn from it and get better and hopefully continue to put in good work this year.”

Ravens

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson said for him and the offense, the offseason is basically over.

“I’ll do something individualized with my guys. I’ll get with the receivers while we’re down in Florida and stuff like that and pretty much grind, because the season is here,” Jackson said, via Ravens.com. “It’s really not the offseason anymore. For us, I’ll say, we’ve just got to keep grinding and stay in shape. We can’t go backwards right now, because we already had our fun and did whatever we did during the regular offseason. Not this time; it’s straight go-mode right now.”

Ravens HC John Harbaugh believes the limited offseason last year impacted Jackson’s development, but the quarterback was still able to become a more diverse player.

“Lamar already does so many things at a high level that other quarterbacks can’t do,” Harbaugh said. “So, you definitely build around those things and try to add to them, enhance them and put more tools in his toolkit that you feel comfortable using in games and calling and attacking people with. That’s what we’re trying to do across the board.”

Steelers

Steelers’ RT Zach Banner said G David DeCastro “couldn’t have done it better” during his time with the Steelers.

“I’m blessed to call Dave a big brother of mine and a mentor of mine,” Banner said, via Sirius XM NFL Radio. “I’ve known obviously behind the scenes about Pounce, about Dave, even about Al. In the back of my mind, I was really hoping — not begging, because it’s not my story, my situation, I’m here to support them in all they do — for at least one more year with Dave.”
