Dolphins

• Per Marcel Louis-Jacques, Dolphins K Zane Gonzalez is week-to-week with an injury. CB JuJu Brents probably won’t practice this week but isn’t expected to be out a while, and DE Clelin Ferrell will miss multiple weeks.
• Miami GM Jon-Eric Sullivan outlined expectations heading into his first year with the team: “It’s not a quick fix. You can’t live in the middle. We expect to be competitive. We are not going to make excuses. Anyone with two eyes can see there are challenges. But we want to win.” (Joe Schad)
• Sullivan talked about third-round WR Chris Bell’s timeline: “I’d rather be a week too late than a week too early.” (Schad)
• He also had great things to say about second-round LB Jacob Rodriguez: “Jacob Rodriguez is an extremely instinctual football player. It’s good for the team to see the competition with (Tyrel Dodson).” (Schad)

Jets

Jets OC Frank Reich feels that QB Geno Smith is in his prime physically at age 35 and has no doubts that he can lead the team and the offense to success this year in his return to New York.

“I don’t know how old he is. Isn’t he past 35?,” Reich said, via Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press. “It feels like he’s 28. I’m telling you, it feels like physically, I see no . . . like, he is in his prime, physically.”

“Like his arm, the way he moves, his feet in the pocket, he’s physically in his prime,” Reich added. “So he takes great care of himself and that’s going to help this team. Geno’s the leader. He’s the leader of the offense, make no mistake about it, in every way, shape and form. And to me, what has become crystal clear in this early time in training camp, the attribute that sticks out to me is his laser focus. This man is laser focused like people don’t understand. Like, he comes to work and he is locked in. And I feel like the whole offense plays off of that. That’s a really big deal.”

Patriots

Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez and WR A.J. Brown have been going at it in practice, with Gonzalez believing that steel will sharpen steel as the two continue to bump into one another ahead of the regular season.

“It’s good on good,” Gonzalez said. “He’s a No. 1 receiver in this league going up against a No. 1 corner. That’s how it’s going to go. It’s football at the end of the day. There’s never no disrespect or anything. We’re just battling and getting each other better. He’s going to face corners like that, that are going to yap at him and going to try to get in his head, and I’m going to face receivers like that who are strong and come right back at me. It’s great work for the both of us.”
