AFC Notes: Jets, Raiders, Titans

Jets

Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins says he feels like a different person and he plans to work as hard as possible to show the team that it was worth it for New York to take a chance on him.

“I feel like a different person on and off the field,” Seferian-Jenkins told NewYorkJets.com. “The weight loss has been tremendous and I’m just really happy I have the opportunity to show the Jets taking a chance on me is going to pay off. I’m just trying to work every single day on the team like everybody else.

Seferian-Jenkins added that losing some weight and OC John Morton‘s plan to get tight ends more involved has led to his impressive offseason.

I think a lot of that has to do with the weight loss and I think that’s kudos to Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty and John Morton,” Seferian-Jenkins said. “Coach Morton has definitely made an emphasis to use the tight end and it’s on the tight end room to make sure we do the best we can to take full advantage of those opportunities.”

Raiders

  • Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Raiders DE Jihad Ward recently underwent minor foot surgery, but his sources have said that Ward will be ready during training camp.
  • Rapoport adds that a “cautious timetable” for Ward to return is by mid-August and the team is in no rush to have him back on the practice field.

Titans

The Titans brought in veteran OL Tim Lelito this offseason to bolster their offensive line depth and Lelito says the team has been an “awesome fit” for him.

“It’s an awesome fit — I love it,’’ said Lelito, via TitansOnline.com. “The style of football is what I like. And I also like that once we are in the building we are going to work hard, but we are going to play hard, too.

“Obviously guys going to the Preds games, hanging out on the weekends, going to each other’s house and playing games, it is awesome. It’s a fantastic group.”

Titans HC Mike Mularkey mentioned that Lelito is “coming along” and fits the kind of player they want up front.

“He is coming along,” Mularkey said of Lelito. “It is all new to him, a new system. He has some things he needs to correct and we’re going to work on his weight, get his weight down a little bit. But he fits our style of player, there’s no question. It’s why we brought him here in the first place. We need to get him more reps.”
