AFC Notes: Maxx Crosby, Deshaun Watson, Bengals, Browns, Ravens

Bengals

  • In Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic’s Bengals’ combine winner and losers, he named S Jordan Battle as one of the biggest winners of the week because of “a wave of momentum behind him among the decision-makers.”
  • Dehner says Battle will be the starting free safety, and the player they sign to play strong safety opposite him will be brought in to complement his skillset.
  • Dehner named DT B.J. Hill a winner as well because he is clearly “an integral part of the defensive plan” in 2026, despite being considered a prime cut candidate before the combine.
  • The other winners from Dehner are the odds Miami DE Rueben Bain falls to pick No. 10, and the uptick of under-center offense for Cincinnati in 2026.
  • On the losing side, Dehner starts with the QB position because of the lack of options for a quality backup. The only name he brings up, other than retaining Joe Flacco, is a reunion with Andy Dalton if he’s traded or released.
  • Dehner also thinks WR Andrei Iosivas is a loser because the Bengals are looking to add competition to that room. With a cap number increase from $1.1 million to $3.7 million, Cincinnati will be expecting more than just toughness and effort from Iosivas.
  • Finally, Dehner named DT T.J. Slaton a loser, as he thinks they will consider moving on should they find an upgrade in free agency.
  • Dianna Russini reports that the 49ers, Bengals, and Colts were interested in signing DL John Franklin-Myers before he was locked up by the Titans.

Browns

Browns OC Travis Switzer was asked whether QB Deshaun Watson would be included in the offensive plans, and he also referenced quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel in his response.

“We’re excited about Dillon,” Switzer said, via Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com. “We’re excited about Deshaun. Anytime you have a guy who has had the success that he’s had, he’s got to be part of the equation as far as when we talk about competing for that job. And then Shedeur, what he was able to show last year. He’s still young. He has a lot of growth that he can still achieve, especially year one to year two, he only started what, six, seven games last year. So yeah, I think there’s a lot to be excited about in that room.”

Ravens

  • Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, new Ravens OLB Maxx Crosby will wait until after this season to pursue any kind of adjustment to his current contract. Baltimore inherited four years and $116 million, with only Crosby’s $30 million 2026 base salary guaranteed.
  • Matt Zenitz reports the Ravens are hiring Greg Goines as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
