AFC Notes: Tank Dell, Cam Ward, Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Jaguars

Jaguars DC Anthony Campanile said the team needs to see DL Arik Armstead return to form and provide a pass rush for them from the interior of the defense.

We just need the production that we were seeing before Arik got hurt,” Campanile said, via Jags Wire. “And as he came back obviously he pushed through it, pushed through an injury at the end of the year and Arik is a huge guy inside. He creates great middle push. He’s got elite pass rush value for us. So we just need him to keep going the way he’s been going.

Texans

Texans WR Tank Dell is working back from a significant knee injury sustained in 2024, for which he underwent two surgeries. Houston WR coach Ben McDaniels said Dell’s process isn’t over yet, but they’re looking for him to be back to his old self when he returns.

“Looking for him to be Tank,” McDaniels said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “He’s been working really hard to get back to what he knows he is and can be. It’s been a long process and he’s still at it.”

“The process isn’t over. It doesn’t need to be over. He’s working all summer and he’ll be working hard to get himself as healthy as he can as he can be and we’re excited for him to be ready.”

Houston TE Dalton Schultz spoke about what it means to them to have Dell back after a long, tough recovery.

“I love when I see Tank on the field,” Schultz said. “It’s been two long years for him. I know he’s gone through a lot. He’s had a crazy road to recovery, but every time he’s out there, he’s a dude that just brings juice, brings good energy.”

“At the end of the day, the kid’s a hell of a receiver. I know when he lines it up, when he’s on the field, we’re going to have a good matchup. To just to see him back out there is motivating for guys, especially considering what he’s gone through.”

Titans

Titans QB Cam Ward has had occasional accuracy issues during the course of the OTAs this offseason, but the coaching staff isn’t concerned. Tennessee HC Robert Saleh understands Ward isn’t going to make every throw, especially when they are working through things in offseason practices.

“Every quarterback is going to miss a couple here and there,” Saleh said, via ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “I would say Brock Purdy‘s one of the most accurate quarterbacks in all of football, and he would miss a lot of throws, and that’s OK. These guys are all working on a few things here and there.”

Tennessee OC Brian Daboll has been pleased with Ward’s progress and believes he can make any throw they need.

“We’re making good progress,” Daboll said. “You have to make the mistakes, and you have to see it. We’re still learning. But I’m very pleased with where he’s at; he understands the offense well. I think his feet are really good. His eye discipline, his vision down the field. Cam can make all the throws.”

Ward said he’s used the offseason practices to experiment with different things he could take to game day, and he praised the defense for their ability to disguise coverages.

“Every play,” Ward said. “It just depends what coverage our defense presents.”

“Our defense is real good at disguising, so me seeing it faster and then already knowing what route I want to get to while I’m dropping back and then declaring whether I have to move in the pocket or not to get to the check down.”
