AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Titans

Colts

  • The Colts upgraded CB Pierre Desir (hamstring) from doubtful to questionable for Sunday’s game against the Steelers. (Andrew Walker)

Jaguars

Jaguars owner Shad Khan says the Jalen Ramsey trade “played out great for us.”

We want to have players who are committed to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who can help us win,” Khan said, via Jaguars.com. “If not, we want to get fair value out of that.

Khan mentioned that he doesn’t expect Ramsey’s departure to affect DE Yannick Ngakoue’s future with the team.

“I don’t think that impacts that,” Khan said. “We’ve had we thought a very, very good offer [to Ngakoue this past offseason]. But I think Yannick is a great player. Our goal is we want him to be part of the team.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that the Jaguars’ staff has not decided who they will start between Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles following their Week 10 bye, making Minshew’s performance in Week 9 important toward his candidacy.

Patriots

Multiple players tell Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald that secondary coach Steve Belichick has been calling defensive plays this season.

Patriots S Terrence Brooks mentioned that the defense has “started to gel” with Belichick as a play-caller.

We’ve started to gel with (Steve Belichick), knowing what he’s going to call and the way he thinks through the game,” Brooks said. “I remember before one of his first games calling it, he was a little nervous, and I had to shake him up a little bit and pep talk him up and tell him that he’s one of the best.

Brooks added that Belichick “understands his players” and does well coaching their defensive backs.

“Man, I love that dude. I really do. That’s my guy,” Brooks said. “He’s just a great coach. He understands his players, he goes out there and he wants you to do right. He’s pulling for you. You always come across some coaches who just wanna yell, but he makes you learn, he teaches you things and expects a lot out of his DBs.”
