AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Titans

Colts

The Colts were thrilled with their selection of OL Danny Pinter in the fifth round in this past draft. Pinter converted from tight end to right tackle at Ball State and Indianapolis believes Pinter could push right guard Mark Glowinski for a starting job, though maybe not right away as a rookie converting positions. Glowinski is under contract through 2021 so Pinter has time to develop as a reserve.

“I view it as a plus,” Pinter said via 1075TheFan.com’s Kevin Bowen. “There are great players there and I think everyone knows that. So I’m just coming in ready to learn as much as I can. Obviously, I am a competitive person so I am going to go out there and compete as much as I can, but at the same time there is a lot to learn from those guys with a lot of experience. So that is what I am really looking forward to, just becoming a better player through them.”

Jaguars

  • Jaguars RB Chris Thompson‘s one-year deal includes a $1.05 million base salary, $200,000 signing bonus and up to $100,000 in per-game active roster bonuses. (Field Yates)

Titans

One of the goals the Titans had this offseason was to upgrade their pass rush across from DE Harold Landry, who broke out with nine sacks in his second season. While they might end up signing DE Jadeveon Clowney, which would turn their edge-rushing group into a strength, the Titans will otherwise be relying on DE Vic Beasley as their best pass rusher besides Landry. Beasley fizzled out with the Falcons after a 15.5 sack year in 2016, but Tennessee thinks HC Mike Vrabel could help Beasley recoup that level of play.

“We brought him in because he’s got some ability to rush the passer off the edge,” Titans GM Jon Robinson said via Jim Wyatt of the team’s official website. “Watch him back through the tape, he’s a guy that plays hard, he’s fast, he’s got good length, he’s got some good snaps on tape. I think our head coach played 12, 13, 14, 15 years at that position, and he’s got a wealth of knowledge at that position. I just think that he can work with Vic, along with (OLB coach) Shane Bowen and really hopefully take his game to another level.”
