AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs

Broncos

Broncos TE Troy Fumagalli has a chance to distinguish himself in what will be a crowded Broncos tight end room for 2019. Fumagalli was impressive during the spring, but the 2018 fifth-round pick is among six players competing for three or four spots, including first-round pick Noah Fant, veterans Jake Butt and Jeff Heuerman and UDFA’s Bug Howard and Austin Fort

“It’s hard to see what you have before you get here,” OC Rich Scangarello said via the Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. “He’s done a great job like a lot of guys we’re excited about. He works very hard at it, he has the right attitude, he’s competitive and he’s versatile. We’ll see where that takes him, but we’re excited to have him.”

Chargers

Chargers RB Melvin Gordon, who recently requested a new contract or trade from Los Angeles, said that he would like to re-sign with the organization in the end.

I want to end up with the Chargers. That’s my home,” Gordon said, via Bobby Belt of NFL Network. “I’m not going to sit here and be like, ‘Man, I don’t want to go back to the Chargers, dah, dah, dah.’ Like that’s the team that blessed me with an opportunity. They started my life. They changed my life. Of all 32 teams, that was the team that called me. I can’t forget them for that.”

Gordon feels he must “take advantage” of this offseason for a new contract and hopes to “get paid.”

But it’s an opportunity right now where I know I need to take advantage of it. You know, I want to get paid. That’s just kind of what it is. Hopefully I end up a Charger. That’s the goal. I want to end up with the Chargers.”
