AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders

Broncos

  • Peter King writes in his “Football Morning In America” column that he wouldn’t get too fired up about “quarterback of the future Joe Flacco in Denver.
  • According to King, Flacco, is no more of a lock to last over a year as the Broncos’ starter than Case Keenum was.
  • King could still see the Broncos drafting a quarterback high in this year’s draft with Drew Lock or Daniel Jones being speculative options. However, he doubts they would draft someone in round one.
  • Sources tell Albert Breer that Joe Flacco has already passed a physical for the Broncos, which clears the way for the trade with the Ravens to be official on March 13.

Chargers

  • Jason La Canfora expects the Chargers to work to re-sign CB Jason Verrett to an extension this offseason, despite missing most of the past two seasons due to injury.

Chiefs

  • While there have been some conflicting reports about whether the Chiefs will franchise OLB Dee Ford, Adam Teicher expects Kansas City to use the tag on him if they’re unable to get a long-term deal done before March 5 deadline.

Raiders

  • Peter King hears that the Raiders are “fascinated” with Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray
  • King wonders if the Raiders could trade Derek Carr to the Jaguars, Dolphins, Redskins or Giants and then grab Murray.
