AFC West Notes: Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders

Chargers

Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said they “absolutely” considered signing veteran free-agent QB Cam Newton but the team is comfortable moving forward with Tyrod Taylor,  Easton Stick, and first-round pick Justin Herbert

“Absolutely. Cam’s a tremendous quarterback; he’s been an MVP of this league, he’s led his team to a Super Bowl, and he’s healthy now, from what I hear,” said Lynn, via Zach Gleb. “I feel really good about the quarterback room that I have with Tyrod Taylor, Easton Stick; those are guys a lot of people don’t talk about…”

Chiefs

Coming off a Super Bowl win, the Chiefs are still making an effort to stay hungry in 2020, focusing on areas they can still improve. One of those is on defense, where Kansas City struggled to defend the run. Chiefs LB Anthony Hitchens said they feel inspired to raise their game in that area after being carried by the offense and pass defense.

“Oh yeah,” Hitchens said via NFL Media’s Grant Gordon. “We improved from Week 7 through the whole season and I think we can get better in the run game. Our [defensive backs] and our secondary saved us a lot of games. [Tyrann Mathieu] and people getting picks and batted balls on fourth downs and all that. Once we get that going with the run game, not making predictions or anything like that, but we should be a top-five defense.”
