AFC West Notes: Chris Harris, Broncos, Raiders

Broncos

John Elway explained that they’re looking at their quarterback situation much like the Packers when they took Aaron Rodgers to sit behind Brett Favre

“We look at it as a Brett Favre/Aaron Rodgers-type situation (in Green Bay),” Elway said, via the Denver Post. “Drew will have time to sit and watch Joe and take his time and learn and continue to get better. We feel we’re in a good situation.”

Elway stressed that Joe Flacco is the starter and Drew Lock will compete for the backup job.

“The bottom line is, (Lock is) coming here to compete as the back-up,” Elway said. “Joe’s the starter and is going to be the starter. We’re hoping Drew’s the future.”

  • A report said that the Broncos would have taken Duke QB Daniel Jones had he been available to them. However, Dianna Russini refutes this report and says: “The Redskins and Broncos were never taking Daniel Jones. In Washington, some tried to convince ownership they should take Jones but it never was going to happen.

Chris Harris

Broncos executive VP John Elway said he plans to talk CB Chris Harris after the draft about his contract situation.

We’ll see,” Elway said, via Mike Klis of 9News. “Like I’ve always said, Chris has been a great Bronco for a long time. As I’ve said, once we get through the draft, we’ll sit down and I look forward to talking to Chris myself, personally, and see where we are.”

Raiders

  • Raiders GM Mike Mayock said he will discuss the fifth-year option with S Karl Joseph. (Vic Tafur)
  • OL Denzelle Good has been penciled in as a starter at guard, per Mayock: “He has played well and has the potential, he just has to sustain it.” (Tafur)
