Amari Cooper Waiting For Julio Jones To Sign New Deal?

According to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, the Cowboys believe WR Amari Cooper is waiting for Julio Jones to sign his next contract before getting serious about a deal contract with Dallas.

Jones and the Falcons have been discussing a new extension that is likely to make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL.

Odell Beckham set the high-water mark for receivers last year at $18 million per year, so both Jones and Cooper will be working off this figure.

Last we heard regarding Cooper, Hill reported that contract talks between the two parties remain at a “stalemate, stuck in neutral and going nowhere.”

Hill added that the Cowboys are not disappointed and remain confident in getting a deal done at some point with Cooper, but no deal is considered imminent at this point.

Dallas has a number of key players in line for extensions including Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, but that has changed their confidence in retaining their core.

Cooper, 24, is a former No. 4 overall pick by the Raiders out of Alabama in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Raiders traded him to the Cowboys for a first-round pick midway through the 2018 season.

He is in the final year of his four-year, $22.7 million fully guaranteed rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $705,000 for 2018 to go along with a $2,825,426 roster bonus.

In 2018, Cooper appeared in 15 games, six for the Raiders and nine for the Cowboys. In total, he caught 75 passes for 1005 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Cooper as the news is available.
