Bears Will Release QB Mike Glennon At Start Of 2018 League Year

Bears GM Ryan Pace told reporters on Wednesday at the Combine that they’ve informed QB Mike Glennon that they will release him at the start of the 2018 league year in March, per Rich Campbell.

Pace explained that there’s a mechanism in his contract that prevents the transaction from being finalized until the new league year.

The expectation has been that Chicago was going to be moving on from Glennon after just one season, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

The Bears moved up one spot to get Mitch Trubisky in the draft last year and are clearly focused on developing him in the coming weeks.

Glennon, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.104 million rookie contract before signing a three-year, $45 million contract with the Bears that includes 18.5 million guaranteed.

In 2017, Glennon appeared in four games and threw for 833 yards while completing 66.4 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
