Bengals WR A.J. Green Believed To Have Ankle Sprain, Getting Precautionary MRI

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the initial diagnosis for Bengals WR A.J. Green is that he’s believed to have suffered a sprained ankle.

Green will still get a precautionary MRI to sure there’s nothing major wrong, but the Bengals will be cautious with Green throughout the preseason.

On Saturday, Bengals WR A.J. Green was helped off the practice field with what appears to be a left foot injury before being taken to the locker room on a cart,.

Jay Morrison says Green had his head in his hands and a “distraught” look on his face.

Losing Green for any amount of time would be an obvious issue for the Bengals.

Green is entering the final year of his contract in 2019. Although his name has come up occasionally in trade rumors, he has made it clear that he wants to remain in Cincinnati.

“I can’t see myself playing anywhere else or playing in a different city,” Green said via NFL Media’s Jeremy Bergman. “Hopefully I can be here for a couple more years. We’ll see on that part.”

Green, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2011. He’s entering the final year of his five-year, $70.176 million contract that included $26.75 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary $11.97 million in 2019.

Green landed on injured reserve last season after undergoing surgery for torn ligaments in his toe.

In 2018, Green appeared nine games for the Bengals and caught 46 passes for 694 yards receiving and six touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Green as the news is available.
