Broncos Hiring Bears DC Vic Fangio As Next Head Coach

Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos have reached an agreement with Bears DC Vic Fangio to be their next head coach. Fangio receives a four-year contract that includes a fifth-year option.

Fangio was one of two finalists for the Broncos’ job along with Steelers OL coach Mike Munchak.

The expectation is that Gary Kubiak will take over as the Broncos’ head coach under Fangio.

Fangio, 60, began his NFL coaching career with the Saints back in 1986 as their linebackers coach. He has worked for several teams including the Panthers, Colts, Texans, Ravens and 49ers before he was hired by the Bears as their defensive coordinator back in 2015.

Fangio’s contract expired last year, but the Bears re-signed him to a new three-year contract.

In 2018, the Bears’ defense ranks No. 3 in yards allowed, No. 1 in points allowed, No. 1 in rushings yards allowed and No. 7 in passing yards allowed.
