Eagles QB Carson Wentz Has Torn ACL, Out For Season

Eagles HC Doug Pederson announced Monday that QB Carson Wentz does, in fact, have a torn ACL and is out for the season.

Pederson did say that Wentz doesn’t have any other ligament damage, but that’s not much of a consolation for Eagles’ fans.

Philadelphia will move forward with Nick Foles as their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season and Nate Sudfeld serving as their backup quarterback.

“The reason we went out and got Nick Foles are for reasons like this,” Pederson said, per Ian Rapoport. “I hate it for Carson, and the season he’s having.”

According to Pederson, they believe Wentz actually tore his ACL on the step before being contacted in the end zone.

Wentz managed to stay in the game and still throw a touchdown to Alshon Jeffery a few plays later, despite the injury.

This is terrible news for Wentz, the Eagles and their fans, as Philadephia has been the best team in the NFL this year and Wentz was a clear MVP candidate. To matters worse, ACL tears typically require a nine-month recovery period, which means Wentz could be cutting close in regards to being ready in time for the 2018 season.

You can expect the Eagles to place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Wentz, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.

Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Wentz appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,296 yards while completing 60.2 percent of his passes to go along with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards.
