Lions Trading CB Darius Slay To Eagles

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Loins are trading CB Darius Slay to the Eagles on Thursday. According to Rapoport, Slay receives an extension as part of the deal that will leave him among the highest-paid players at his position.

  • Adam Schefter confirms the news and adds that the Lions receive a 2020 third- and 2020 fifth-round pick in return for Slay.
  • According to Schefter, Slay receives a three-year, $50 million extension that includes $30 million guaranteed.

Last night, Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that there were ongoing discussions regarding the framework on a three-year extension as part of a trade would send Lions CB Slay to the Eagles and it appears as though they were able to hammer out the final details.

The Raiders were reportedly interested in Slay as well, but this is a big addition for an Eagles’ defense that needed an impact corner.

Slay, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Lions back in 2013. He played out his rookie contract before agreeing to a four-year, $50.2 million extension that included $23 million fully guaranteed.

Slay stands to make a base salary of $10 million for the 2020 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Slay would free up $10.5 million of available cap space while creating $2.9 million in dead money.

In 2019, Slay appeared in 14 games for the Lions and recorded 46 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and 13 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 cornerback out of 114 qualifying players.
