Broncos Discussing New Deal With QB Brandon Allen, Won’t Tender Him RFA Offer

According to Nicki Jhabvala, the Broncos will not be tendering a contract to RFA QB Brandon Allen, but they are trying to re-sign him to a new deal.

Jhabvala notes that while veteran QB Joe Flacco is still on the roster, the Broncos will have the post-June 1 designation available to release him for cap savings this summer. However, Flacco would need to prove he’s healthy or they would likely have to agree to an injury settlement upon releasing him.

Denver has Drew Lock in place as their quarterback of the future, so Allen would be looking at a backup role with the Broncos and an opportunity to compete for a roster spot.

Allen, 27, is a former sixth-round pick out of Arkansas by the Jaguars back in 2016. He is entering the final year of a four-year, $2.4 million rookie contract when the Jaguars somewhat surprising waived him coming out of the preseason.

The Rams waived Allen coming out of the preseason last year and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Broncos.

In 2019, Allen appeared in three games for the Broncos and completed 46.4 percent of his passes for 515 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also rushed for 39 yards.
