Browns G Alvin Bailey Suspended Two Games For Substance Abuse Violation

The NFL announced Thursday that Browns G Alvin Bailey has been suspended two games without pay for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Bailey was arrested for OVI and other counts after he was stopped by police while in a Cleveland parking lot around 1 a.m. back on Sept. 26.

According to the police report, Bailey was speeding when he turned off into a picnic area. An officer allegedly saw Bailey exiting the vehicle and he ignored the officer’s orders to get back in the vehicle.

Bailey said he stopped because of a high air pressure warning in the vehicle and he was just releasing air.

The report says that Bailey admitted to drinking and consuming several whiskeys on the plane from Miami. He was later arrested for OVI after he did poorly on sobriety tests and was over the legal limit on a portable breath test.

Bailey wound up being cited for failure to comply, drug abuse, drug paraphernalia, speed and unsafe vehicle (cracked windshield).

Bailey, 25, signed three-year, $6 million contract with the Browns as a free agent back in March. He’s set to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season and $2 million in each of the final two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Bailey has appeared in all 13 games for the Browns and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 60 guard out of 78 qualifying players.
