Buccaneers Lock Up LB Lavonte David To A Five-Year, $50.25M Extension

Update:

The Buccaneers have already announced their agreement with OLB Lavonte David

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reports that the Buccaneers agreed to terms with OLB Lavonte David on a five-year million extension.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that David’s five-year extension is worth $50.25 million in total and includes $25.56 million guaranteed.

This contract leaves David as the highest paid outside linebacker in terms of annually salary and sets the stage for Panthers MLB Luke Kuechly, who could ultimately surpass David.

Lions OLB DeAndre Levy walked away with a five-year, $37.2 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed just a few days ago, so you can see that David did quite well in this new contract.

David, 25, was entering the final year of his four-year, $3.472 million rookie contract that included just $1.754 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $738,418 for the 2015 season to go along with a $125,000 workout bonus.

In 2014, David appeared in 14 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 44 tackles, one sack, four forced fumbles, a recovery and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 outside linebacker in a 4-3 defense out of qualifying 40 players.
