Cameron Wake Hoping To Be Back With Dolphins, Willing To Consider Other Options

Dolphins veteran DE Cameron Wake, who will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019, says he would like to be back in Miami next year, but he’s at least willing to consider other options if need be.

“Another jersey?” Wake said Friday, via the Palm Beach Post. “Ideally, no. But I mean, again, if option number one is not in my favor and they don’t want me but I can still play and I can still provide and still enjoy it whatever needs to happen. If it makes sense then I’ll do it. If it doesn’t then I won’t.

Wake admitted that he’s thought about his future throughout the year.

“You think about it all the time,” Wake said. “That’s the unfortunate part of the game. Whether it be physical or mental, it’s tough. It’s a tough gig. But at the end of the day, today, I still feel good, and I still feel like I can help. Will that be the case in April? I’d like to think so.

Wake, 36, wound up going undrafted out of Penn State back in 2005. He signed on with the Giants but was released a few months later.

After two years in the CFL, the Dolphins signed him to a contract for the 2009 season.

Wake is in the final year of his two-year, $19 million contract and set to make a base salary of $8 million for the 2018 season. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Wake has appeared in 12 games for the Dolphins and recorded 30 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
