Cardinals Sign QB Jeff Mathews To Practice Squad

The Arizona Cardinals have signed QB Jeff Mathews to their practice squad on Monday, according to Darren Urban,

  • The Cardinals released LB Kion Wilson from their practice squad to make room for Mathews.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim said a move was likely to be made before the end of day “for emergency purposes,” but their plan was to move forward with Ryan Lindley and rookie Logan Thomas as their top-two quarterbacks.

Keim mentioned that QB Drew Stanton does not have a timeline to return from his knee injury, despite recent reports that mentioned he could miss four weeks.

I think it’s one of those things with that type of knee injury, everybody heals different,” Keim said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “And I know that ESPN and some other outlets have put a timeline on it. It’s extremely difficult to do.

During his senior season at Cornell, Mathews threw for 2,953 yards while completing 63 percent of his passes to go along with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
