Cardinals Waive QBs Brandon Doughty & Alek Torgersen

The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that they’ve waived quarterbacks Brandon Doughty and Alek Torgersen.

Doughty, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He was waived coming out of the preseason and has been on and off of their practice squad the past two years.

Miami brought Doughty back on a futures contract this past January before cutting him loose last month. The Cardinals wound up claiming him off of waivers a day later.

Doughty has yet to appear in an NFL game.

During his college career at Western Kentucky, Doughty threw for 12,855 yards while completing 68.6 of passes to go along with 111 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.

Torgersen, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Pennsylvania back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Falcons cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Torgersen later signed on to the Redskins’ practice squad before he was released during the season. The Lions signed him to their practice squad in December and brought him back on a futures deal this past January.

Detroit elected to waive Torgersen after signing Matt Cassel and he was later claimed by the Cardinals.

During his college career, Torgersen threw for 7,025 yards while completing 65.1 percent of his passes to go along with 52 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He also rushed for 912 yards and 18 touchdowns over the course of 30 games.
