Carson Wentz Still Hasn’t Been Cleared For Contact

On Sunday, Eagles HC Doug Pederson told reporters that QB Carson Wentz still has yet to be cleared for contact, despite the fact that they’re just two weeks away from the start of the season.

Eliot Shorr-Parks notes that Pederson has said before that he ideally would want to know a week before season opener who his starting quarterback will be.

Nick Foles has struggled this preseason, but unless Wentz is close to being cleared next week, it’s possible he could open the season as the Eagles’ starting quarterback unless Wentz is ready to go.

Last week, Wentz was given the green light to resume 11-on-11 team work.

During a recent interview with SportsRadio WIP 94.1, Wentz admitted that there’s at least a chance he may not ready to play in Week 1.

“I obviously would love to be out there. That’s been my goal all offseason ever since the injury. It’s going to be close. It’s going to be close,” Wentz said, via Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I’m still eyeing that date. At the end of the day, it’s not just my decision. There’s coaches and doctors that really have the final say. I really like where I’m at and time will tell here.”

Wentz was a clear MVP candidate at the time he was placed on injured reserve in December with a torn ACL.

Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.

Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Wentz appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,296 yards while completing 60.2 percent of his passes to go along with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards.

We’ll have more regarding Wentz as the news is available.
