Chargers Release LB Takeo Spikes

The San Diego Chargers announced the release of LB Takeo Spikes on Thursday.

Spikes, 36, had a base salary of $3 million coming his way next season. He’s a 15-year-veteran and there was talk floating around that he was a likely candidate to be released.

“Takeo is a true professional and a class act,” G.M. Tom Telesco said. “We’re grateful for his many contributions to the Chargers organization, both on and off the field, and wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Spikes could find a home in Washington, as they could use some help at linebacker and he would likely require only the veteran minimum of $940,000. On top of that, they just hired former Chargers GM A.J. Smith, so it probably couldn’t hurt his chances any.
