Chargers Promote Javontee Herndon, Sign RB Dreamius Smith To PS

Update:

The Chargers promoted WR Javontee Herndon to their active roster on Tuesday, according to Michael Gehlken.

  • Herndon will take WR Keenan Allen‘s roster spot now that he’s being placed on season-ending injured reserve.
  • San Diego also signed RB Dreamius Smith to their practice.

Herndon, 23, signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas back in May of last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster, but later ended up on their practice squad last year.

He was brought back on a future/reserve contract in December of last year, but was once again among their final roster cuts a few months ago.

The San Diego Chargers have signed RB Dreamius Smith to a contract on Tuesday, according to his agent.

Smith, 23, wound up signing on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia back in May. However, he was unfortunately unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason.

Since then, Smith has been on and off of the team’s practice squad, so this could be a practice squad transaction.

Smith has yet to appear in an NFL game.
