Chiefs Place DE Alex Okafor On IR With Torn Pec

Update:

Field Yates reports that the Chiefs have placed DE Alex Okafor on injured reserve Monday to make room for Terrell Suggs, who was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that an MRI on Monday confirmed that Chiefs DE Alex Okafor is, in fact, out for the season with torn pectoral muscle.

You can expect the Chiefs to place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs believe DE Alex Okafor has a torn pectoral muscle that would sideline him for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Okafor picked up the injury in Sunday’s 23-3 win against the Broncos. He’s having an MRI to confirm and would likely be placed on injured reserve shortly after.

Okafor, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his rookie contract when he signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Saints in 2017.

Unfortunately, Okafor suffered a season-ending Achilles tear before eventually agreeing to a two-year deal worth up $10 million with the Saints. He signed with the Chiefs in 2019 to a three-year, $24 million deal after declining his player option in New Orleans.

In 2019, Okafor appeared in 10 games for the Chiefs and recorded 22 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
