Chiefs Open Talks With WR Tyreek Hill Regarding Record-Setting Extension

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Chiefs have begun negotiations with star WR Tyreek Hill on what will end up being a record-setting deal when complete.

Back in January, Rapoport mentioned that the Chiefs intended to work on a long-term contract extension for Hill this offseason, so this isn’t a big surprise.

No doubt he’s going to be one of the highest-paid, if not the highest-paid receivers in the NFL,” Rapoport said.

Hill, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2016. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $2.58 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,965,036 for the 2019 season.

In 2018, Hill appeared in 16 games for the Chiefs and caught 87 passes for 1,479 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns to go along with 151 yards rushing and a touchdown. Hill also totaled 213 punt returns and one touchdown. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 7 receiver out of 117 qualifying players.
